The route is closed. Fabrizio Romano posted a 'here we go' on August 3rd reporting that Como have reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea to sign Chalobah, a club-to-club deal at a EUR 30m fixed fee plus EUR 6m in add-ons with a sell-on clause written in for Chelsea. Sportingpedia, carrying the same reporting the same day, has the defender due in Italy for his medical on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, and notes that Chelsea held out for a fixed fee until Como met the asking price. Chalobah wanted Italy and Champions League football; Como, in Serie B two years ago and into the Champions League for the first time in their history under Cesc Fabregas, offer both, and Inter's earlier interest fell away after a non-aggression understanding between the two Serie A clubs. Villa were said to view the 27-year-old as their preferred replacement for Tyrone Mings, with Chalobah frozen out at Chelsea and the Blues open to offers around GBP 20-30m, but they never moved beyond initial contact. Como's improved package on July 24th, worth a guaranteed EUR 25m plus EUR 5m in achievable add-ons, always carried the player's own preference with it, and the agreement now reported settles it.
